Sending Happy Thoughts & Sunshine with Mama Elephant

Greetings fellow crafters!  It’s Ashley D. here for my first official blog post!  So excited to join the BRI Design Team this term, and I look forward to sharing my fun crafty projects with you over the next few months!  First up is a simple pick-me-up card I created for a friend having a rough time right now.

I sent it along with a decorated “sunshine box” full of bright yellow surprises to cheer her up.  For the card, I chose to use Mama Elephant’s Carried Away set, and coordinating dies, for its uplifting sentiment.  As a mom of two boys, it’s one of my favorite sets because it includes two little boys in addition to a girl.  And it’s perfect for winter without being Christmassy, especially with the older boy wearing a scarf.

First, I stamped both boys, the balloon, and string, with Memento Tuxedo Black.  I prefer this ink because it works flawlessly with Copic markers.  I then colored all three images with Copics, and if memory serves me correctly, I used Y000, Y00. Y02, Y11, and Y08 for the balloon; R02, R05, Y11, Y02, G000, YG41, B00, BG01, N1, and N2 for the clothes; YR31, YR12, and E97 for the hair; and E000, E00 and E93, for the skin and cheeks.  For a little dimension, I added a few white highlights with a Gelly Roll Classic Gel Ink 08 pen.

To set the scene of the boys flying away with good wishes, I created a sky background; first by single-color ink blending Distress Oxide Tumbled Glass onto Bristol Smooth Cardstock, then die cutting a stitched rectangle and clouds (Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables & Lawn Fawn Puffy Cloud Borders). Then layered them together with a hint of yellow cardstock.

Finally, I stamped and die cut the included sentiment, and attached it, the boys, and balloon, with foam adhesive.  Hope the recipient loves it as much as I enjoyed creating it!  Thank you for stopping by and see you next week!

Baby Tags featuring the We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool!

Happy Monday! This is Kim Hamilton and I am so very excited to be sharing my first post with you for Butterfly Reflections Ink! This is making my first day back to work after a two-week break a happy one! I am sharing baby gift tags today, one of my friends is expecting and not sure what she is having so I made one of each!

I used my We R Memory Keepers Fuse Tool for the first time and loved it! I cut my own Tim Holtz watercolor paper to the size of tag I wanted (2 3/4 x 4 1/4) and cut the edges with my trimmer.  I stamped my sentiments that are by Lawn Fawn Hello Baby with VersaMark ink and used white embossing powder. For the girl tag I used a mix of Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Abandoned Coral Distress Inks and for the boy tag I used Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio and Twisted Citron Distress Inks.  I sprayed both tags with some water and dabbed it off. I then stamped my images by My Favorite Things Snuggle Bunnies for the girl and Magical Dragons for the boy.  I colored m…

Painting backwards....

Hello, hello!  Norine here from The Velvet Lemon blog.  It's been a week for introductions hasn't it, but let me just say how delighted I am to have been invited to join such a talented group of paper crafters, and to contribute here at Butterfly Reflections Ink!
Today I'm sharing with you, some cards I made by working backwards.
What do I mean, you wonder?  Well, it's a technique I sometimes enjoy doing, where you "smoosh" your water based ink pads on a craft mat, mist the colors with water and then drag your water color paper through it to create a pretty mess of color.
For today's cards, I wanted a blend of blues and greens (always a crowd pleaser) and yellows/pinks.  You will always be happier with the results when you keep the green/blues from overlapping with the yellow/pinks, because that just produces an unappealing mud color.

I used a variety of Tim Holtz Distress Inks for this project, but any water based inks will work the same.  It&#…

Open DT Call for Spring/early Summer Term!

Happy Spring, everyone! The weather here is... confused. LOL Thursday we had 50 degrees, Saturday we had 10 inches of snow and today it was 50 again. We just celebrated my son's 21st birthday on Thursday as many of you know from taking advantage of the celebration sale! Thanks for that. I spent all day packing and shipping orders during the day and then went out for dinner (and his first legal beer) when he got out of work that night. I honestly can't believe he's TWENTY-ONE, such a milestone and it's weird having a man child. HA! Yesterday, we spent the snow day in pjs and doing nothing which was a welcomed change. Today, my husband took our younger son skiing and my daughter and I had a girls' day which was nice. We went out to breakfast, did a little shopping and saw Beauty & the Beast. That's the lowdown over my way. I hope you've all been enjoying the weather, your families, crafting, work or whatever makes you HAPPY! :)
With the change of seasons a…
